An early season race, the Siskiyou Sprint Triathlon offers experienced and first time triathletes a safe & community supported event to engage in a fun and friendly, competitive atmosphere. This event begins with a dip in the olympic size pool at Southern Oregon University, transitions on bike through the scenic City of Ashland and out onto rural country roads. The final segment, the run, takes participants along the paved Bear Creek Recreational path on an out and back course finishing at the Ashland Tennis & Fitness Club. Participants then get to enjoy a fresh BBQ, music and celebration of awards. This event has been built to help support the ATFC Youth Sports Inc, a local organization fostering youth involvement in sports, health & wellness lifestyle activities.
The ATFC Youth Sports, Inc.
ATFC Youth Sports started over 15 years ago as an extension of Ashland Tennis and Fitness
Club. Over that 15 year period of time, the program slowly grew and incorporated more
programs and extended its service reach to work with more organizations throughout
Ashland and the southern Oregon area. The program went from serving 40 children monthly
to over 260 per month. In January of 2014, it was decided by ATFC board of directors and
ATFC Youth Sports Board because of the growth of the juniors, and the volume they were
now serving, it was in the best interest of the community, participants and the organizations
we serve to incorporate it into a 501c3.
We currently run programs at Bellview Elementary, Walker Elementary, Ashland Parks and Recreation, Futsol (Indoor Soccer League), Talent Parks and Recreation, Ashland Parks & Recreation and we are a vender for LOGOS charter school offering health and wellness programming. That, combined with our junior tennis league and junior competitive swim club we now serve over 260 children monthly. Specialty programs such as “Parents night out”, “Tennis Hit and Swim”, and our winter tennis league draw kids from as far as north as Grants Pass and south to Yreka.
We believe that youth wellness and sports programs should be accessible to children of all ages regardless of income. Our scholarship program allows children (through their parents or guardians) to apply for funding to help cover the cost of programming. We serve as a support group for many organizations that cannot facilitate specialty junior programming because of limited space or staffing.
Each year, we raise money for our youth programs to help provide resources for scholarships,
equipment, rental fees for facilities (gyms, extra courts, etc), instructor fees, etc. Through the generous support of individuals, foundations and other local community groups, we will be able to serve the children placed in our care in the most beneficial manner.
